Why we wanted to be part of Opticos
As we approached the end of our studies, we both knew that we wanted to start our careers in management consulting. We saw it as a great way to begin our professional journeys and gain exposure to a variety of challenges, industries, and ways of working.
What attracted us to Opticos was the combination of entrepreneurial spirit, the possibility to make real client impact early on and being part of a fast-growing company with an exciting journey ahead. We wanted to work somewhere we could contribute from day one while continuing to learn and develop.
We were also looking for a smaller consulting firm. From our very first interactions with Opticos, we were drawn to the culture, the people, and the warm welcome we received. It felt like a place where everyone knows everyone, where you become a colleague rather than a number in an intake class.
What it is like to be a YPP
The YPP has been a great start to our careers, and our learning curves have been steep! The mix of client work and internal training sessions means that you are never just doing or just studying. You learn something in a course and soon find yourself applying it in client work.
One of the biggest advantages of the program is starting alongside other YPP participants. Having the opportunity to support and learn from each other has been incredibly valuable. Comparing experiences from different assignments and projects has given us broader perspectives than our own projects alone could provide.
The program is also characterized by a lot of support from our colleagues. No matter the level of seniority, everyone is approachable and willing to help, creating an environment where growth feels natural and where it is easy to build lasting relationships.
A welcoming first week
Our first week at Opticos immediately confirmed that we had made the right choice. The onboarding was a great mix of introductions, training sessions, and social activities that helped us quickly get to know both our fellow YPPs and colleagues across the company. We spent time in both the Stockholm and Gothenburg offices, which gave us the opportunity to build connections across the firm and feel welcome in both locations from the very beginning.
Exciting first Client Assignments
Our projects have taken us in many different directions. We have worked with commercial strategy and go-to-market planning for a software product, digital transformation initiatives, finance transparency and cost control, digital maturity assessments, and cybersecurity-related projects. We have also worked across a wide range of sectors, including automotive, banking, aviation, energy, real estate, etc.
The variety has been especially appreciated since it has exposed us to different business challenges, perspectives, and ways of working while continuously pushing us to develop new skills.
Alongside client work, we have also had opportunities to contribute internally. Taking ownership of initiatives and driving ideas forward at Opticos has been a great opportunity to develop on the side of the client assignments.
Mentorship from Development Coach
Everyone at Opticos have a development coach, a person senior to you that you meet in a regular cadence and with whom you can discuss any type of matter connected to your work. Having regular conversations with a more experienced colleague has given us an opportunity to discuss challenges, reflect on our progress, identify areas for development, and explore both short-term and long-term goals. Knowing that there is always someone available to discuss ideas, questions, and ambitions with has been a great source of support throughout our first year.
Building personal Connections
At Opticos, building personal connections is an important part of the company culture. Whether through after-work events, sports activities, dinners, or company-wide conferences, social activities help strengthen relationships across the company. This emphasis on personal connections has created a strong sense of belonging for us both, and colleagues often become friends.
Graduation trip to India
The graduation trip to India was definitely one of the highlights of the YPP program. Visiting our colleagues in Bangalore provided a unique opportunity to strengthen relationships across offices, as well as among us YPPs, before the program came to an end. In addition to learning more about how our teams collaborate globally, the trip gave us valuable cultural experiences and many memorable moments together as a group.
